(1) What UECo light to you like to use the most and why?
We like to use the Lyford. Depending on the finish specified, it can work well with traditional, transitional and contemporary spaces. The Lyford is also a great alternative in spaces where there may be one too many lamp shades used. It is the smartest wall lantern that I know.
(2) Your six picks of favorite UECo lights?
(3) What is your design philosophy?
I strive to develop, own and express all of the important principles of design that any designer has memorized. I work hard to strike a balance with all of the elements incorporated into a space only to then follow a hunch and look for an opportunity to break a rule or two. I guess the most important or significant element in my design philosophy is risk…and to follow my heart and my eye.
(4) What is something people may not know about your firm?
Our versatility. For a small firm we do work all over the country and have several offices. We are home to Atlanta, New York, Nashville and Montgomery; because of this we are exposed and work in every region of the country. In addition, we have some international work being introduced this year.
(5) What is your favorite part of a home to design and why?
The center or thesis statement for the home. The grand hall or salon that sets the direction for all other sequences that you wander through in the home. This is also usually the room where you have the most freedom when it comes to layering rich textures, colors and varying materials.
(6) Three design resources you can't live without?
Urban Electric is a given so I will site MacRae Furniture, Ainsworth Noah, and Designer Carpets - all in Atlanta, Georgia.
(7) Best design tips you have learned from experience?
Never design in a vacuum. Whenever you make a decision always consider every relationship and how each element will impact the other. Keep your sense of humor so that you can continue to love what you do.
(8) What do you collect?
Jewelry
(9) What are your favorite paint colors to use?
Sherwin Williams Black Fox and Sealskin for rich and dark shades. Benjamin Moore Tapestry Beige and Revere Pewter for a lighter touch.
(10) What are your favorite design books?
Today, they are Liaigre, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, Writers' Houses, The Home Within Us and anything Beta Plus.
